Last night

It took overtime to do it, but the Cavaliers handed the Celtics their second loss on the year, 109-104. D-Gib played 46 minutes in the game, scoring eight points. He also added four rebounds and three assists on the night.

The Bucks lost their first game at home on the year, falling to the 76ers by a 114-99 count. Royal Ivey played 21 minutes in this one, indicating that his great performance against Cleveland last week has earned him more playing time. He finished the night with nine points, two boards, two steals, and an assist.

K-Smoove had 25 points, but the Sonics fell just short in L.A., losing 106-99 to the Lakers. Durant also had three assists, two blocks, and two boards for Seattle. Meanwhile, Chris Mihm shot only 2-of-10 from the field but finished with six points and eight rebounds.

Last night

The Orlando Magic moved to 13-3 on the year after defeating the Trailblazers 85-74 in Portland. Maurice Evans was the busiest player off the Magic bench, putting in 27 minutes of work. Mo had seven points and two rebounds on the night. For Portland, LaMarcus Aldridge battled foul trouble that limited him to just over 27 minutes on the court. Despite the short PT, The Marcus still managed to pour in 16 points and grab five rebounds.

After a quick weekend in the greater NYC area, here’s your jet-lagged, turkey-stuffed, bargain-priced NBA update…

Friday

Maurice Evans again rode the pine with his new squad as Orlando took out the Bobcats, 105-92.

The two most storied NBA franchises met once again, and the Celtics bested the Lakers, 107-94. Chris Mihm missed all four of his shots in his fourteen minutes of action, but grabbed five boards and dished out two dimes.

LaMarcus Aldridge dominated in Portland, and the Trailblazers knocked off the Kings, 87-84. L.A. had another double-double — this time with a 28/12 line — and blocked three shots in the contest.

It was a quiet night by Kevin Durant standards, as the rookie finished with twelve points and five boards in a 98-93 home loss to the Nets.

Saturday

It should’ve been another battle of UT guards, but T.J. Ford was forced to miss the Raps/Cavs tussle thanks to the stinger that took him out of Tuesday night’s game against the Mavs. Cleveland finished on top, 111-108, as Daniel Gibson scored 17 points to go with three boards, three assists, and a steal in over 43 minutes of play.

He does exist! The Magic found Maurice Evans on their roster and played him for eleven-and-a-half minutes in a 120-99 pasting of the in-state rival Heat. Mo finished with six points on 3-of-7 shooting and left the rest of his line blank.

The Bucks edged the Mavs in Milwaukee, 97-95. Royal Ivey played an even ten minutes and knocked down two free throws to go with an assist.

Sunday

T.J Ford missed another game with a lingering neck injury, but the Raptors were victorious at home, downing Chicago 93-78.

Daniel Gibson earned the rare seventh foul when he was assessed a technical after fouling out of a 111-106 Cavs win over the Pacers. D-Gib’s foul trouble limited him to only 15 minutes, in which he scored eight points and grabbed four rebounds.

The Spurs knocked off the Supersonics in Seattle, 116-101, but they had difficulty shutting down Kevin Durant. K-Smoove had 25 points on 11-of-17 shooting and added six boards and four assists on the night.

Chris Mihm hardly saw the floor as the Lakers lost 102-100 to the Nets, but finished the night with four points and four rebounds in his three minutes of action.

Tonight

Maurice Evans and the Magic head west to face the Portland Aldridges. (9 PM CST, NBA League Pass)

Last night

Royal Ivey saw a good chunk of minutes for the second-straight night, and Milwaukee knocked off the Lake Show, 110-103. Ivey scored five points in eleven minutes and logged four assists. For L.A., Chris Mihm was mostly ineffective in his 15 minutes, scoring only one point on a free throw and grabbing only two boards.

T.J. Ford missed the entire game due to a stinger, but the Raptors held on for a 95-89 victory against Memphis.

The Cavs took out Minnesota on the road, 97-86, moving back to .500 on the season. D-Gib finished with eleven points and five dimes in 34 minutes on the court.

Maurice Evans did not play for Orlando last night, a day after being traded from the Lakers. Mo doesn’t play and the Magic lose to the Spurs, 128-110? It clearly doesn’t have anything to do with the incredibly talented San Antonio squad….it’s gotta be the lack of Mo.

LaMarcus Aldridge and the Trailblazers let one get away at home, as the Nets used a 4th-quarter comeback to earn a 106-101 victory. LA scored fourteen and corralled eight rebounds in his 31 minutes, adding two blocks and a steal.

Today

The NBA takes a back seat to the NFL, leaving its schedule clear so that Glen Davis can eat three turkeys. Plus a pecan pie.

Last night

Maurice Evans packed his bags and headed east after being traded to the Magic along with Brian Cook for forward Trevor Ariza.

In this space yesterday morning, I hoped that Royal Ivey would get to see the court at the same time as Daniel Gibson. Turns out, it was an absolute clinic by the two former Horns. D-Gib scored 26 points on the night, adding four assists and two rebounds in his 36 minutes of play. Royal with Cheese had the best game of his young career, scoring 15 points in just under 15 minutes while logging three boards, two assists, and two steals. And as far as bragging rights are concerned, Ivey and the Bucks snagged a 111-107 victory.

No Kwame Brown means more Chris Mihm. Andrew Bynum got the starting nod over Mihm, but the Westlake and UT grad pitched in with nine points and four boards as the Lakers killed the Pacers, 134-114.

T.J. Ford and the Raptors jumped out to a huge early lead against the Mavs, but cooled in the 3rd quarter and allowed homestanding Dallas to escape with a 105-99 victory. Ford scored 13 and dished out five assists in 22 minutes on the court.

Tonight

Can Royal Ivey claim scoreboard over a fellow Longhorn for a second-straight night? Chris Mihm and the L.A. Lakers hope that isn’t the case as they travel to Milwaukee. (7 PM CST, NBA League Pass)

T.J. Ford and the Raptors hope to bounce back in Memphis against the Grizzlies. Tip #1 from Longhorn Road Trip: Keep Jose Calderon on the bench the entire night and let T.J. play 48 minutes. Problems solved. (7 PM, NBALP)

Daniel Gibson travels to Minnesota when the Cavs and Timberwolves tangle in the Target. That’s called alliteration. (7 PM, NBALP)

We hope to see the debut of Maurice Evans in a Magic uniform as Orlando travels to San Antonio and tries to avoid Tony/Eva overhype. (7:30 PM, NBALP)

LaMarcus Aldridge and the Trailblazers host the Nets in a matchup of 4-7 teams. (9 PM, NBALP)

Last night

LaMarcus Aldridge had a rough game in a 101-92 Portland loss to Charlotte. L.A. struggled against a tough defense and battled foul trouble as well, playing only 20 minutes on the night. Aldridge finished with seven points and one rebound.

The Memphis Grizzlies defended their home court, taking out the Seattle Supersonics, 125-108. Kevin Durant had eleven points in 30 minutes on the floor and snagged two rebounds.

Tonight

If Royal Ivey snags some playing time, there will be a Longhorn backcourt battle when the Bucks take on Daniel Gibson and the Cavs. (6 PM CST, NBA League Pass)

Chris Mihm will likely see more playing time with Kwame Brown suffering another injury on Sunday, and Maurice Evans hopes to contribute from the bench as the Lakers travel to Indiana. (6 PM, NBALP)

T.J. Ford travels back to Texas as the Raptors face the Mavs in Big D. (7:30 PM, NBALP)

Friday

The Raptors grabbed another win, besting the Pacers 110-101 at the Air Canada Centre. T.J. Ford had 15 points on a 50% shooting night and added seven assists.

Portland fell just short of a road victory in Philly, as the 76ers won by a 92-88 count. LaMarcus Aldridge continued to quietly impress, logging 25 points and six boards in 38 minutes on the court.

Kevin Durant hit the game-winning three over the outstretched arms of Al Horford, and the Sonics grabbed a double-overtime victory in Atlanta, 126-123. KD had 21 on the night, along with three blocks, steals, and rebounds as Seattle put together a second consecutive win.

Daniel Gibson scored six, grabbed six boards, and dished out five assists as the Cleveland Cavaliers beat the Jazz, 99-94. D-Gib was abnormally cold from behind the arc, missing on all three of his attempts.

The Lakers took out the Pistons, 103-91 at the Staples Center. Maurice Evans provided eleven minutes off the bench, scoring five points while logging three assists, two boards, and a steal. Chris Mihm did not play in the game.

Saturday

LaMarcus Aldridge had yet another double-double, but the Trail Blazers fell short against the Wizards, 109-90. L.A. had 19 points and ten rebounds in his 39 minutes on the court, adding a pair of assists and a block.

The mini winning streak came to a close when the Sonics lost to the Bobcats, 100-84. K-Smoove was a perfect 10-of-10 from the line en route to a 16 point night, but grabbed only one rebound.

Royal Ivey played 13 minutes as the Milwaukee Bucks knocked off the Hawks, 105-96. Ivey had two points, assists, and steals in the winning effort.

Sunday

The Raptors dropped a home game to the Warriors, 106-100. But T.J. Ford certainly did his part for Toronto, scoring 29 points, dropping nine dimes, and grabbing five rebounds in 33 minutes of play.

The Lakers beat up on the pitiful Bulls, logging a 106-78 victory. Chris Mihm scored eleven points in thirteen minutes of play by getting himself to the foul line, where he was 7-of-8. Mihm also had eight rebounds in a game where Maurice Evans added seven points and a board.

Tonight

LaMarcus Aldridge and the Trail Blazers head to the opposite coast to take on the Charlotte Bobcats. (6 PM CST)

The Seattle Supersonics and Kevin Durant look for another win against the hapless Grizzlies in Memphis. (7 PM CST, NBATV)

Memphis took home the 2KSports College Hoops Classic trophy last night, knocking off UConn, 81-70. The Sooners took consolation in a third-place prize, besting Gardner-Webb, 69-55.

Pig soooooooie! Eighteenth-ranked Arkansas turned the ball over about 97 times in the semifinals of the Puerto Rico Tip-Off, and Providence pulled off the convincing 67-51 upset. The music has stopped in Fayetteville, and Bubba Hog no longer dances…or jiggles.

An excellent link courtesy of the fine posters over at HornFans this morning, where “ghost” uncovered the Gabe Muoneke comeback blog at HoopsHype. It’s a really good read, and has me hoping we’ll see a Paulino/Muoneke contest for bragging rights in the D-League this fall.

Did Aggie stupidity rub off on good ol’ BCG while in College Station? Rush the Court points out that apparently Coach Gillispie still hasn’t signed a formal contract at Kentucky. And even if I were illiterate, I can still tell this thing is from Lexington and not College Station, because there aren’t Bill Byrne’s Crayola scribblings across the page. Dollar Bill, much like Harold, really digs the purple crayon.

Horns in the League and the post-game writeup will be late-afternoon updates today. In the meantime, you’ve got wall-to-wall football to hold your attention, while PB and crew over at Burnt Orange Nation have you more than covered in the pigskin department.

Last night

There were no Longhorns playing last night, but Kevin Durant did drop by the NBA on TNT studios to chat with the guys. I know that they’ve been using YouTube to have questions submitted for the crew, so I was hoping that maybe the video would be posted there this morning. No dice, but I did find this little gem…

Tonight

LaMarcus Aldridge and the Trail Blazers head to the City of Brotherly Love to face the 76ers. (6 PM CST)

The Toronto Raptors and T.J. Ford host the Indiana Pacers. (6 PM CST)

It’s the first NBA meeting between Kevin Durant and Acie Law IVLCXMI when the Sonics travel to Atlanta and take on the Hawks. (6:30 PM CST)

The Cavs and Daniel Gibson host the Utah Jazz. (6:30 PM CST)

Chris Mihm and Maurice Evans get some more national airtime when the Lakers and Pistons tangle from Staples. (9:30 PM CST, ESPN)

Last night

Kevin Durant and the Sonics got over the hump, knocking off the Miami Heat 104-95. KD played 33 minutes in this one, scoring 18 points to go with five boards. On the night, he shot 50% behind the arc (3-for-6) and only 30% inside it (3-for-10). Interesting, no?

The Raptors were edged out at home by the Utah Jazz, 92-88. T.J. Ford just missed a double-double, dishing out eight assists while scoring 13 in his 32 minutes of play.

The Cavs and Magic needed an extra five minutes to decide a winner, but ultimately Orlando prevailed by a 117-116 count. Daniel Gibson saw the floor for 41 minutes, dropping in 16 to go with two assists, two rebounds, and two steals.

Royal Ivey did not play for the Bucks, who defeated the Memphis Grizzlies, 102-99. These two facts are in no way related. In all honesty, the Grizzlies are so awful that Royal could’ve played them 1-on-5 and won by about 30, but Coach Larry Krystkowiak didn’t want to embarrass Memphis that way. So, hooray for sportsmanship I guess.

The Lakers took out the Rockets in Houston, 93-90. With Kwame Brown back at full strength, Chris Mihm played for only a minute and a half and didn’t find the stat sheet. But Maurice Evans made the most of his ten minutes, scoring seven and grabbing a board.

LaMarcus Aldridge started strong and faded in the 4th quarter, but still finished the night with 15 points and nine rebounds. He also added a steal as the Trail Blazers fell to the homestanding Nuggets, 110-93.

Tonight

Apparently the Spurs and Mavericks are playing tonight, and that’s important for some reason. But there’s no Longhorns on the NBA’s schedule, so I’ll be blissfully ignoring TNT. San Antonio and Dallas fans, enjoy your e-pene battle.
