Last night

The defending champion Spurs continued their steamroll through the League, offing the Bucks 113-88 to move to 6-1 on the year. Royal Ivey played 17 minutes in the blowout, scoring two points while grabbing three boards and logging three assists. He missed all six of his shots from the field, but was a perfect 2-of-2 from the charity stripe.

The Sonics fell to 0-7 for the first time in three decades, losing to the Pistons by a 107-103 count. Kevin Durant scored 19 points as Seattle charged back from a 26-point deficit in the fourth quarter before falling just short. He also snagged six boards and blocked a shot in the contest.

Daniel Gibson played only 21 minutes in Cleveland’s 103-95 victory over the Clippers, scoring five points to go with three assists.

Tonight

Last night

The Toronto Raptors absolutely crushed the homestanding Chicago Bulls, 101-71. T.J. Ford scored only five points but had an eye-popping fourteen assists in his 24 minutes on the floor.

LaMarcus Aldridge dropped 18 points as the Trail Blazers worked their back to .500 with a 91-82 victory over Dallas. Aldridge also grabbed eight rebounds while playing 35 minutes for Portland.

Tonight

Last night

T.J. Ford finished with 16 points and five assists as the Raptors ended their three-game losing streak with a 105-103 victory over the 76ers.

The battle of Chinese superstars Yao Ming and Yi Jianlian drew worldwide attention and ridiculous amounts of in-game hype from the ESPN “storyline” machine. But in more important news, Royal Ivey didn’t see the floor in the contest, which the Bucks lost by a 104-88 final.

LaMarcus Aldridge put forth a Herculean effort as the Trail Blazers knocked off the Memphis Grizzlies, 110-98. L.A. logged a double-double in just over 40 minutes of play, scoring 30 to go with 10 boards. The Marcus also added three steals, three blocks, and two assists for Portland.

The Lakers used a huge third quarter to cruise to 107-93 victory over Minesota. Maurice Evans missed his second straight game with a sore back, but hopes to use the three-day layoff to heal in time for the Spurs and Rockets games. Meanwhile, Chris Mihm started again in place of the injured Kwame Brown, earning a double-double with his ten-point, ten-rebound performance.

Cleveland escaped with a road victory in Sacramento, taking out the Kings 93-91. D-Gib played just 24 minutes in the game, scoring ten points with 3-of-7 shooting behind the arc.

The Supersonics fell just short of grabbing their first win on the year, losing 103-101 to the visiting Jazz. Kevin Durant was cold behind the arc (12.5%) but great everywhere else, finishing with 20 points, five boards, three steals, and a block.

The reverb from Kentucky’s mighty fall is resonating throughout the blog world, and it couldn’t be funnier. Perhaps the best comes from our friends at Rush the Court. (I wonder how often the SEC fines them?) They wonder if FireBillyGillipspie.com is up yet, while pointing out that the ‘Cats were 25.5 point favorites who trailed the entire game and finally lost by sixteen. UConn advanced to MSG for the semifinals of the Coaches vs. Cancer tourney, knocking off Buffalo, 82-57. They will take on Gardner-Webb next week in New York City. In other first round action from the CvC, the Sooners took out San Francisco by a 71-55 tally. They will play Denver in a regional final tonight at 7 PM CST.

A bunch of other Big 12ers kick off play tonight, with Texas A&M hosting McNeese State at 7 PM CST, Sean Sutton and the Pokes taking on Prairie View A&M, Kansas playing ULM, K-State against Sacramento State, and the Cyclones welcoming Winston-Salem. But the highlight of the night comes when new coach Steve Alford takes his New Mexico Lobos to Colorado to face Jeff Bzdelick’s Buffs. Too bad we can’t see it on TV.

Work on a brand new look for Longhorn Road Trip has been going fast and furious this week. And while I’m not a techie guy who can explain all the crazy shit my web design folks are doing, I can safely say it’s an excellent upgrade. Of course, when changing from something designed in 1873, the quality can only increase. Look for the redesign to hit on Sunday or Monday, just in time for the new season.
